Talking green is in. The matter is discerning whether we are talking about the color of money or the environment. Words such as sustainability have become cliché. The Environmental Paradigm explores the meaning of environmental art.
Environmental art takes us back to the Land Art movement of the late 1960's. The question remains still what constitutes environmental art in the twenty first century. How do artists address this issue in an era in which natural resources have become so tainted that are endangering our own human existence which is dependent on all these elements.
Now that corporate media has seized the commercialization of ecological issues, what kind of an environmental model is there to follow?

Bay Area Now and Later

Bay Area Now and Later is a group show created by local artists going on simultaneously with the show Bay Area Now at YBCA. Our goal in staging this exhibition is to show that the local art scene is too diverse and vibrant to be summed up in one giant group show every three years. We provide an opportunity for the interested viewer to experience exciting work made by dedicated artists. The aim of this exhibition is not to discredit or challenge our larger counterpart, but rather to present a supplement to Bay Area Now's survey of our contemporary art scene. We want to expose viewers to a cross section of artistic practice which might go unrepresented if we leave the definition of local artistic practice up to one institution.
